Recent reports reveal that some 72,000 tons worth of Egyptian rice, valued at $20 million, were exported to Turkey in 1999. Turkey ranks first worldwide as a rice-importing nation, with Syria following close behind.
Last year’s overall Egyptian exports to Turkey fell to $393 million compared to the previous year, reflecting a 10.9 percent fall, while Egyptian imports from Turkey dropped to $473 million in 2000, a 6.42 percent decrease.
In an effort to increase economic cooperation between the two countries, a Turkish 180-man business delegation visited Cairo earlier this year. — (MENA Report)
