Recent statistics reveal that Egypt’s domestic computer sales dropped from 250,000 units in 1999 to 150,000-200,000 units in 2000.
These figures have come as somewhat of a surprise to some, as computers have become a major component of Egyptian households in recent years, reported London’s Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily.
Local computer market specialists have proposed importing second-hand computers into Egypt to alleviate the problem. Doing so, they maintain, would keep prices low and boost sales.
Promoting the sale of computers is deemed important by many, as stagnation in the computer sales market would translate into fewer potential computer users and the spread of technological knowledge. –(Mena Report)
