The Egyptian cement sector recorded a 2.4 million ton output for September 2003, down from 2.7 million tons in August, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). Some 2.3 million tons of cement was sold to the local market and 763,000 was exported abroad during the same month.

Egypt’s cement sector has witnessed rapid growth since the end of the 1990s. Increased demand attracted several producers into the market, especially as the government decided to privatize its holdings in six companies.

By the end of 2002, there were four new cement production facilities in the country, supplying an approximated 1.40 million tons of cement each annually. — (menareport.com)
