Egypt’s railway development programs have been allocated 539.8 million Egyptian pounds ($126 million) so far during the year 2001, reported Al-Ahram daily. Egyptian Minister of Transportation Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Damairi asserted that this sum would enable the national railways authority to maintain top safety and efficiency standards.
Among the projects that will be undertaken this year by the authority, the Fardan railway suspension bridge is planned to open, and a 101-kilometer long railway from Ismailia to Bair Al-Abd will be constructed. The railways authority also plans to acquire 100 new cranes. —(Mena Report)
