ALBAWABA - In a significant military development, Egypt has officially incorporated a state-of-the-art MEKO-A200 class frigate, manufactured in Germany, into its naval forces. The vessel reached the Alexandria Naval Base after concluding its procurement process in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Crafted by the renowned German firm TKMS, the MEKO-A200 is anticipated to bring advanced technology and formidable combat capabilities to the Egyptian Navy. This delivery marks the third frigate handed over as part of a comprehensive agreement between Egypt and Germany, encompassing a total acquisition of four MEKO-A200 class frigates.

Colonel Garib Abdulhafiz, the Egyptian Army Spokesperson, revealed in a formal statement that the MEKO-A200 frigate has successfully arrived at the Alexandria Naval Base. He underscored that the procurement procedures were successfully finalized in Bremerhaven before the frigate's seamless transfer to Egypt. Abdulhafiz emphasized the cutting-edge design of the frigate, engineered by the German TKMS company, incorporating the latest international standards in weaponry and combat efficiency.

The spokesperson articulated that the frigate's integration into the naval fleet would significantly augment the Navy's capabilities in handling threats and challenges, further securing the nation's dominance over its coastal territories along the Mediterranean and Red Seas. This delivery signifies the third frigate dispatched under the overarching agreement between Egypt and Germany for the acquisition of four MEKO-A200 class frigates.

In preceding transactions, Egypt's military had previously welcomed two MEKO-A200 frigates on June 11, 2023, and November 2, 2022, respectively. Additionally, an import from South Korea, a frigate, was formally delivered to the Egyptian Navy on October 26, 2017. Egypt had also acquired its initial frigate of the Italian-made "FREMM" class on December 31, 2020.
