Egypt, Turkey bilateral exchanges at $490 million in 2000

Recently published official statistics indicate that the volume of trade exchanges between Egypt and Turkey during the year 2000, amounted to $490 million. Egypt’s Trade 

Representation Office head in Istanbul, Ahmed Al-Gawaili has stated that Egyptian exports to Turkey hit $140 million, while Turkish exported $350 million worth of commodities during 2000. 

 

Earlier this year, Egyptian and Turkish delegations held talks in Cairo in a bid to promote new business deals in various sectors. Both sides emphasized the need to establish an 

Egyptian-Turkish free trade zone, an issue already under study. 

 

While in Cairo, the Turkish businesspersons presented some proposals for enhancing the trade cooperation between the two countries, including establishing a Cairo-Izmir air-link, excusing iron and steel products from dumping dues and re-opening the Egyptian market to
