The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity is currently reviewing the possibility of establishing the first ever electricity station that operates fully on solar power by day and natural gas by night. The Ministry is hoping to satisfy three percent of the country’s power needs with renewable energy sources by the year 2010.
The plant is planned to have the capacity to generate 130 megawatts of electricity, reported Al Akhbar. Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Hassan Younes stated that priority will be given to local manufacturers of renewable energy equipment, in order to create new employment opportunities within the country. — (menareport.com)
