The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity recently announced plans to increase the Unified Electricity Grid’s capacity by 3.7 million kilowatts. The project is expected to cost two billion dollars, reported Al-Ahram.
The ministry is beginning with organizing $400 million in funding for the development of the Nobariya electricity plant. Nobariya is planned to produce 750 thousand kilowatts of electricity during the first stage of is operations in 2005.
Egypt’s electricity generation capacity is estimated at 113 billion kilowatts per hour, whereas the overall domestic energy consumption stands at 77 billion kilowatts per hour. In addition to meeting domestic demand, the united electricity network supplies power Libya, Syria and Jordan. — (menareport.com)
