The United States International Trade Committee (ITC) has rejected a complaint issued by certain American firms that Egypt, South Africa and Venezuela have been dumping on steel and wire rod imports, the Middle East News Agency reported.
The Egyptian trade Representation Office in Washington notified minister of economy and foreign trade Youssef Ghali on Sunday October 14 that the charges were dismissed. However, the U.S. trade panel cleared the Commerce Department to continue investigations on imports from these countries. The result of the inquiry could lead to steep duties on carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod imports.
ITC voted unanimously that there is reasonable indication that allegedly "dumped" imports from Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and Ukraine have materially harmed local producers. (Mena Report)
