Egypt has banned the import of all livestock, meat and related products from Turkey and Malaysia over fears of foot-and-mouth disease, the agriculture ministry announced in Wednesday's press, August 15.

The decision was made after the ministry received reports of possible cases of infection in the two countries, the governmental Al-Akhbar paper said. The disease poses no danger to humans but is extremely contagious and necessitates the killing of all possibly infected livestock. ― (AFP, Cairo)
