Ahmed Nasser, Egypt’s economic counselor in Vienna traveled to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana on November 22, to attend a special session of the Slovene Chamber of Commerce, where the possibilities of trade between Slovenia and Egypt were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, Nasser described both the advantages and pitfalls of doing business in Egypt. He said that during the first seven months of the year, Slovenian exports to Egypt equaled $16.5 million, while imports from Egypt stood at $2.6 million. The Slovenian exports, he said, were comprised of paper, and air and vacuum pumps. Egypt’s exports included cotton, salt and yarn.
Nasser said that Slovenian business interests would find a ready market in Egypt for pharmaceutical products and wood. But when it comes to pharmaceuticals, he said, it should be realized that a long registration and licensing period is required. Slovenian importers should look to Egypt for supplies of onion, garlic and citrus fruits.
While Egypt does not operate an embassy in Slovenia, one is scheduled to open in the near future. There also are plans to create an agency for Egyptian-Slovenian economic promotion. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
