Egypt’s trade deficit decreased by 12 percent during the third quarter of the fiscal year 2001-2002 reaching $2.4 billion compared to $2.7 billion for the same period last year. The drop was the result of a two percent increase in exports to $1.6 billion and a seven percent drop in imports to $3.9 billion, reported the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Trade.

Egyptian exports to the Common Market of Eastern and Southern African (COMESA) increased by 53 percent, rising $106 million, during FY01/02, while those to the Arab world rose 12 percent, or $300 million. — (menareport.com)
