A new player in the Jordanian Internet Service Provision (ISP) market was launched this week. The new company, LINKdotNET (Jordan), is a joint venture between Fastlink, Orascom Telecom's GSM operator in Jordan, and LINKdotNET (Egypt).
“It is incumbent upon us all in the Internet industry to push hard for realizing Jordan’s vision of becoming an IT hub for the region. In view of the figures, that indicate that the Internet subscriber base stands at 35,000 and the number of users does not exceed 175,000, our foremost challenge would be to drive deeper market penetration,” said Mutaz Otaibi, general manager of LINKdotNET (Jordan).
“Reading into mobile usage patterns which indicate that Jordanians have a keenness on data services unparalleled even by the most tech-savvy European consumers, I don’t believe we are up against an uphill task,” Otaibi add.
The Amman-based LINKdotNET (Jordan) will offer the full line of Internet services, targeting three markets: residential consumers, small/medium enterprises and corporations. Its service offerings will include post and prepaid subscriptions, dialup access and high-speed ISDN leased lines, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSL) connectivity, Application Service Provisioning (ASP), Web and E-commerce development, including domain registration, hosting and data warehousing. LINKdotNET’s call center will offer 24 hours, 7 day a week customer support.
LINKdotNET is the market leader in Egypt with 50 percent market share and the largest subscriber base among consumers in the country. LINKdotNET was formed in June 2000, as Egypt’s top ISPs, Link Egypt and InTouch, announced their merger. InTouch was founded in 1992 to be the first ISP in Egypt, while Link Egypt was set up in 1995. Link Development, the web and e-commerce development arm of LINKdotNET, opened an office in Dubai in 1998 to serve the Arabian Gulf Region. — (menareport.com)
