E-Vision, the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) digital cable TV provider, will showcase its interactive services at this year’s Cable and Satellite (CABSAT) exhibition, to be held March 5-7, 2002, at the Dubai World Trade Center.
E-Vision’s currently available services include five interactive games. Soon to be launched is an electronic program guide and pay-per-view services. “Digital cable technology is fast providing the solution to the demand for added value from broadcast services,” said Humaid Rashid Sahoo, E-Vision’s chief executive officer.
The electronic program guide (EPG) will be offered to all E-Vision subscribers, giving information for seven days of programs. Viewers can select programs by genres—movies, sports, children, documentaries, etc—get information on current broadcasts or determine the day and time they are interested in. The service Pay per View will allow subscribers to pay a nominal fee to view one-off special program, such as movies, sporting and music events.
The E-Vision basic package of nearly 70 channels, including movies, sports, news and entertainment, caters for the needs of the UAE population. It is offered for 50 Dirhams (around $14) per month. The Showtime Cable packages, ART Cable and A La Carte options, bring the choice of channels to nearly 100. E-Vision is currently available in most parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai and selected areas of Sharjah. — (menareport.com)
