The Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) launched on Saturday the second phase of its E-Commerce Training Program “Training of Trainers” to enhance participants' technical skills in the use of modern technology. Unlike the first phase, which concentrated mainly on theory and creation of an e-commerce strategy, the current two weeks session will focus on the implementation of e-commerce cases.
“We will cover the human resource aspect, the consequences and positive effects on organizations when using e-commerce concepts, legal commerce and security aspects,” Svend Filtenbourg, one of the European consultants on the project told the Jordan Times.
The sessions are part of a program by the European Commission, ACI, the Information Technology Association and the Euro-Jordanian Business Service Team, to increase the contributions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to the global market.
The session will be followed by a three-day pilot — “Rollout” training — highlighting the impact of e-commerce on the market and shedding light on the needed preparations before the actual implementation takes place. The “Rollout” training will be conducted by professionals from different business associations and the Jordanian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Director general of the ACI, Juma Abu-Hakmeh, hailed the European Commission for sponsoring the project and urged the participants to meet the challenges that face Jordan in creating a successful e-commerce business, locally and regionally.
“Most benefits come from the trainees' own participation in doing the activities since there is a huge difference between telling somebody what to do and allowing him/her to apply it,” said Filtenbourg.
Samar Hammad, one of the participants, said she hopes that the current session will be dedicated to fully apply e-commerce and help trainees better master their information technology (IT) skills.
A center was founded at the ACI to spread e-commerce awareness and help the private sector adapting IT skills via a special e-commerce campaign started late last year. The center will also be responsible for the “Rollout” Training, noted a news release by ACI.
The third e-commerce project will be finalized by an international e-commerce conference, which will take place in Amman, in June 2001, and host professionals in the fields of e-commerce, e-business and IT, added the press release. — ( Jordan Times )
