Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) and the European Commission Delegation in Jordan announced their upcoming two-day conference and exhibition, titled Creating a New Environment for the Digital Economy, focusing on e-commerce and e-business issues.

The event take place February 19-20, 2002, at the Grand Hyatt Amman and will include seminars and workshops dealing with issues ranging from bridging the digital divide through legal frameworks to business transformation.

The event represents the third phase of the EBDA (Electronic Business Development Activities) initiative aimed at the dissemination of e-commerce awareness and the implementation of a capacity building program. EBDA came to existence in October 2000 when its founding contracts were signed between the European Commission Delegation in Jordan and the Amman Chamber of Industry.

Phase one of the initiative was a Training of Trainers program, which was conducted in three stages by European consultants. The resulting group of trainers was entrusted with the task of implementing phase two of the initiative, The Roll Out Training Program. This program saw more than 2,500 participants representing the industrial, commercial, banking, financial, insurance, military and IT sectors attending over 70 e-commerce sessions.

Increasing the business community’s awareness of e-commerce and e-business, starting and promoting a dynamic national dialogue in the private and public sectors, encourage regional co-ordination, tackling practical issues related to e-commerce infrastructure and coming up with recommendations represent the event’s key objectives. — (menareport.com)
