The Dubai Customs and Automobile Management Zone (Ducamz) issued 44,000 automobile clearing certificates in the first quarter of 2002, a 31 percent increase compared to figures from the same period in the previous year. Certificates for automobiles imported by the Emirate and re-exported to other countries are inclusive in these figures, reported the official WAM news agency.

Rashid Port received the most traffic concerning vehicle imports and re-exports, followed by the Al-Aweer Center and then Ducamz. The Jebel Ali Customs Center, the Land Transport Customs Center and the Airport Customs all received less traffic in the first quarter or 2002.

Ducamz is a free zone for re-exporting new and used right hand driven cars in Ras Al-Khor. The facility, spread across eight million square feet, is aimed at providing Asian markets right-hand drive vehicles. — (menareport.com)
