The Dubai Customs authorities have cleared 30 percent more vehicles in 2001 than in the previous year, with customs documents increasing from 19,000 to 40,000 during the same period. Dubai’s increase in vehicle trade in 2001 was generated largely by the Dubai Customs Automobile Zone (Ducamz), confirmed a press release by the Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation.
Ducamz cleared 46,000 second-hand cars in 2001, compared to 39,000 vehicles during the previous year, an 18 percent rise, confirmed acting director-general of Dubai Customs, Hamad Fadhil Al-Mazrouei.
The Al-Aweer Customs Center cleared 17.5 percent more vehicles this year over 2000, reaching 20,000 vehicles in 2001. The Land Transport Customs Center recorded a 65 percent growth during the same period to 1,110 vehicles and Dubai Cargo Village Customs registered a 51.5 percent growth with 433 vehicles in 2001 over 286 during previous year.
Ducamz is a free zone for re-exporting new and used right hand driven cars in Ras Al-Khor. The facility, spread across eight million square feet, is aimed at providing Asian markets right-hand drive vehicles. — (menareport.com)
