Exports from Dubai to Taiwan increased from around 175 million Emirati dirhams ($47 million) in 2002 to around Dh 234 million in 2003, marking a 33 percent increase, according to Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al-Mutaiwee.
"We regard Taiwan as an important trading partner and a trade gateway to China and South East Asian countries," commented Al-Mutaiwee. "Although the latest figures show that we enjoy strong trade relations with Taiwan, they do not fully reflect the trade potential available in our two countries." The Director General of the DCCI mentioned that the value of total trade with Taiwan in 2003 reached around $561 million.
The Director General's comments came at a recent meeting with Chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Taiwan Trade Centre, CJ Hsu, along with other trade officials representing Taiwan. The objective of the meeting was to consolidate trade and business cooperation between Taiwan and Dubai, as well as boost the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries.
Hsu agreed with Al-Mutaiwee and suggested that increasing delegation visits between the two sides could help achieve the goal of strengthening communication and cooperation channels. On that note, Al-Mutaiwee said that when organizing for a delegation from Dubai to visit their counterparts in Taiwan, it should correspond with a major trade events being held in the region. — (menareport.com)
