Dubai tests "Our Flexible Summer": 4 working days a week

ALBAWABA – Dubai launched a new initiative that aims to reduce weekly working days and daily working hours for 15 government entities. Dubai Government Human Resources Department announced testing the new initiative “Our Flexible Summer” during this summer of 2024, as recorded by CNN.

Fifteen government establishments are participating in the trial implementation of this new initiative that aims to enhance the flexibility of the work environment, reduce working hours to seven hours per day, and reduce working days to 4 days per week. Friday will be considered a day off according to Dubai Government Media Office.

"Our Flexible Summer" new initiative will be implemented from August 12 to September 30, to increase employees’ happiness and well-being by enhancing their social life and giving them the right options to balance between their work and social life.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director-General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, said via the government news agency WAM: “We are thrilled to announce that DGHR will be launching the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative, in line with our long-standing efforts to nurture a flexible work environment that promotes the work-life balance of government employees, in accordance with best international practices. 

The launch will also further our vision to empower human resources by developing smart solutions and innovative policies to uplift Dubai’s competitiveness. The initiative aims to enhance employees’ quality of life and promote sustainable use of government resources, positioning Dubai as the ideal city for a superior lifestyle.”

It is important to note that before launching “Our Flexible Summer” initiative, the Dubai Government's Human Resources Department conducted a survey to explore the possibility and opinions of establishments and corporations and their flexibility to reduce their working hours and days during this summer.

According to the recently conducted survey, “Our Flexible Summer” initiative received great support from most of the participants.
