Between 50-60 percent of aftermarket imports into Dubai are re-export bound. This trade plays a vital economic role with the emirate’s aftermarket trade being worth between 3.5 to five billion Emirati dirhams ($950,00-$1.4 million) a year, according to an AAME press release.
“The recent announcement that Dubai will have its own auto parts city free zone is a clear indication that the Government takes this segment extremely seriously,” said Surender Singh Kandhari, vice chairman of the newly formed Auto Parts Merchants Group (APMG).
The Automotive Aftermarket Middle East (AAME) 2002 exhibition will run at the Airport Expo Dubai from April 9-11 and is hoped to advance the positioning of the emirate as the Middle East’s aftermarket re-export hub. International Expo-Consults (IEC) organizes AAME.
“Already this year’s show is 30 percent larger than last year with 130 exhibitors from 19 countries and featuring first-time representation by companies from Brazil, China, Taiwan, Greece and Tunisia,” said IEC Chairman AbdulRehman Falaknaz. “These newly emerging business opportunities lead us to anticipate the show will this year smash its on-site order book record, which last year topped five million dollars.” — (menareport.com)
