Students from different Dubai girls schools had the opportunity to learn more about the effective use of the Internet as well as some helpful guidelines on how to combat viruses and hackers, at an Internet awareness program organized by the Dubai Social Services at Al-Raya School for Girls.
"The Internet touches every aspect of our lives. It is a useful medium of education, entertainment and communication. But to derive the maximum benefit from this efficient tool, it is essential to learn how to use the Internet efficiently," said Marwan Al-Naqi, acting manager for the Community Outreach & Marketing, Dubai e-Government.
After presenting guidelines on how to overcome hackers and viruses, Naqi encouraged the students to learn about the different aspects of the Web and use them in their dailies lives, including studies, and day-to-day transactions.
"Dubai has emerged as the leader in Information Technology (IT) in the region because of the vision of its rulers to leverage the Web services and improve business and community relations," added Naqi.
"It is important that youngsters learn to use the computer in all aspects of life, as the future moves towards a paperless society. Been computer literate is an essential tool for today's job market," said Fatma Ghanem Al-Merri, director of Al-Raya School for Girls.
The presentation was part of the series of community outreach programs being conducted by Dubai e-Government to increase awareness of e-Services; in an effort to prepare the community for when more than 70 percent of government services will be made available online.
