Dubai Municipality has completed the final designs and preparations for a permanent location to host the Global Village, one of the major attractions of the annual Dubai Shopping Festival. The village is expected to be ready within a year beside the Emirates Road.
Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Roads and General Projects Affairs Mattar Al-Tayer said the new Global Village and the roads leading to it have been designed in such a way that it would ease traffic flow to and from the village.
“There will be six gates for the village, with the main gate opposite to the VIP car parking in addition to five other gates distributed around the wall of the village. These gates will serve different activities and locations inside the village. The entrances and exits have been designed in a special way,” he said.
He added that two additional lanes will be added to oncoming traffic from Deira as vehicles can enter the village through the existing camel tunnels. A separate track has been provided for the taxis and public transport coaches, in addition to a track for the VIPs.
For the oncoming traffic from Abu Dhabi, an additional track would be set up on the Emirates Road. In this direction as well, taxis and vehicles for the VIPs, and public transport coaches will be separated from the regular traffic. Two lanes will be added to the Emirates Road for exit to the Deira direction.
People returning to the Abu Dhabi direction should reach the interchange six kilometers away from the village before turning to their destination. For entertainment and shopping purposes, a separate track will be set up for passenger trains and horse carriages that will pass through the entire village.
Taking into consideration the growing number of visitors to the Global Village, the number of parking spaces has been increased. There will be nearly 13,000 parking spaces, in addition to 34 waiting point for the public and private transport coaches.
The current area of the global village could be expanded further, he noted, adding that the present area includes a 35,000 square meters area for games, 57 restaurants with a total area of 9,078 square meters, and 68 locations for the different countries participating in the village with each one having a total area of 863 square meters.
The village will also include a mosque, offices of the festival organizers, business centers and telecommunication stations. — (menareport.com)
