Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has come out with a network of mobile automated teller machines (ATM), by which a client can have his banking requirements met at different locations. A version of the mobile ATM was on prominent display at DIB's stand at Gitex Dubai 2002, which opened on October 13 at Dubai International Exhibition Center.

The mobile ATMs, initially to be introduced in Dubai and later on in the other Emirates, will be placed at strategic locations, where there is a very high possibility that DIB's clients will be in the vicinity.

Mobile ATM locations could be leading government departments, hospitals, universities, supermarkets, shopping malls and cineplexes - once official approvals have been obtained. The mobile ATMs could be rotated in step with the movement of people at a particular location and the time. For instance, such a machine could be placed at a prominent government office in the morning and afternoon hours, and shifted to a shopping mall by the evening.

Mobile ATMs were only recently introduced in some of the international markets, and the initial response has been extremely positive for the banking sector. However, the concept is still new to the Middle East, and DIB has been one of the first adopters.

Established on 1975, DIB is considered to be the first Islamic bank in the world that has implemented the principles of Islam in all its practices. It was founded with active assistance of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Government, the Central Bank and people of the UAE. — (menareport.com)
