Dubai Internet City (DIC) entered a strategic agreement to deploy advanced Internet and telecommunications infrastructure from Cisco Systems, Internet networking company. Under this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Cisco will be the preferred technology partner as DIC enhances its existing IP-based (Internet Protocol) architecture and grows its business to provide next-generation telecommunication services.
Using a reliable platform of high-speed IP infrastructure, companies based at DIC will be able to manage their pan-regional network of offices using the most sophisticated telecommunications services available, according to a DIC press release.
“Internet business is a global issue and we aim to make our facilities a hub for e-Business innovations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) initially, and across wider areas of the region in the future,” said Omar Bin Sulaiman, DIC chief executive officer.
“In signing this agreement with Cisco we have put in place the foundation to rapidly and seamlessly grow our business in a variety of directions in the region. Cisco will now be a key partner in the development of Dubai Internet City, providing not only the critical infrastructure, but also knowledge transfer, consultancy and strategic advice.”
Cisco IP Telephony and Metro Ethernet solutions are already deployed within the campuses of Dubai Internet and Media City. Cisco will now assist Dubai Internet City in training its teams of engineers to reach global qualification standards and hold technology workshops to share knowledge on emerging technologies such as Wireless networking, IP-VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), Unified Messaging and other technologies related to Dubai Internet City's business plans.
DIC provides a Knowledge Economy Ecosystem designed to support the business development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) companies. It is the Middle East 's biggest IT infrastructure, built inside a free trade zone, and has the largest commercial Internet Protocol Telephony system in the world.
