The Department of Interior Design at the American University in Dubai announced that it will be hosting an international conference and exhibition for architecture, art and design, under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, between 16 and 18 March, 2002.

Entitled Contemporary Architecture, Art & Design in the Gulf the event provides a rare opportunity for world-class architects, artists and designers to meet, present and discuss their latest projects at a public forum to an audience of lay and professional people from the Gulf region.

International personalities from the fields of architecture and design including Japan's premier architect Arata Isozaki, the UK's Sir Michael Hopkins and Jonathan Spiers and Yves Monnot from France will be in Dubai for the conference. Regional personalities such as Nader Ardalan (Kuwait), Rasem Badran (Jordan) and Farhad Ahmadi (Iran) will also be involved. 14 other speakers will arrive from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Conference Chairman and Professor of Interior Design at the American University in Dubai John Alexander Smith said “This showcase event is indeed a rare opportunity to see, hear and meet world-class architects, artists and designers presenting their work in the Gulf Region. Consequently it promises to be a visual feast for visitors to the American University in Dubai and should not be missed”.

Smith continued: “How architects, artists and designers succeed in creating works of outstanding originality and beauty tempered by a consideration for utility and technology has long been a mystery to many—including other architects, artists and designers! Contemporary Architecture, Art & Design in the Gulf offers the perfect opportunity for visitors to Dubai to learn about subjects that impact upon our lives in this, the third millennium—the new communication age." — (menareport.com)
