Dubai's total exports and re-exports rose by 12 percent in the first quarter of 2002, reaching 10.3 billion Emirati dirhams ($2.8 billion) compared with Dh 9.2 billion ($2.5 billion) in the first quarter of 2001, reported Al- Ittihad .
Iran remains the main trade partner to Dubai, with the Emirate’s exports and re-exports to country reaching Dh 728.4 million in the first quarter of 2002, a seven percent increase compare to results from the same period last year.
Three new shipping lines were set up last August between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), establishing a channel that would operate between Bushehr in Iran and the neighboring Gulf states. Iran-UAE business ties have been the least affected by the dispute over three islands in the Gulf captured by Iran in 1971 and claimed by both countries. — (menareport.com)
