The government of Dubai has demanded that the US computer chip maker, Intel Corporation, and German’s Institut fuer Halbeiterphysik (IHP) set up a manufacturing unit in the Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ), as a pre-condition for its investing in a $1.5 billion microchip project near Berlin, reported the Khaleej Times.
The announcement about the DAFZ plant was made by Mohammed Al-Zarouni, the director-general of Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA), who admitted that while negotiations had been continuing for several months already, nothing had been finalized as of yet. He expected the negotiation process to carry on for about another month.
Al-Zarouni said that a delegation from Dubai had recently visited the eastern German state of Brandenburg where an agreement on economic cooperation was signed. At the same time, the agreement between Intel and IHP was finalized.
The IHP research institute, founded in East Germany in 1972, is based at Frankfurt-an-Oder. It is owned by the Brandenburg state government. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
