Dubai’s export and reports totaled 58 billion Emirati dirhams ($1.5 billion) for 2003, a 23 percent growth compared to figures from 2002 and a 98 percent growth compared to results from 1998, according to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Iran headed the list of the top ten countries receiving exports and re-exports from Dubai last year. Saudi Arabia came in second place, followed by Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, India, Libya and Jordan consecutively.

Dubai’s exports constitute about 82 percent of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’ total exports. This sector can be divided into two main groups - traditional commodities such as dates, hides, frozen and dried fish, iron scrap and other metals. The second group consists of manufactured goods, which are imported by Gulf countries and other international markets.

The Emirate also exports aluminum, liquefied gas and readymade garments to Japan, India, US and Western Europe. Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council (AGCC) markets consume most of the UAE’s foodstuff, chemicals, plastic products, building materials and metallic exports. — (menareport.com)
