Dredging and reclamation work have begun on the Al Reem island for the 4.3 million cubic meters area for the Shams Abu Dhabi project under the management of Sorouh Real Estate.
The project is considered one of the most important property developments in the UAE capital, occupying more than over 1.32 million square meters of land and accounting for one fourth of the land mass of the island, located 300 meters from the north-eastern shore of Abu Dhabi city.
The dredge work will be done with the help of the 'Queen of the Netherlands' high-capacity trailing suction hopper dredger, and undertaken by Pal Technology with Boskalis Westminster as its dredging sub-contractor and Ghantoot Contracting its rock revetment sub-contractor, according to Gulf News.
The majestic 173 meter 'Queen of the Netherlands' will suck up sand up through a tube trailing on the seabed and load it into hoppers and then be depositing on Shams.
The Shams Abu Dhabi project marks the company's flagship project, for which work is expected to last for an estimated three months.
"With the arrival of the 'Queen of the Netherlands' and the commencement of dredging operations, Sorouh Real Estate has entered a new phase of implementing its most prestigious project, the Shams Abu Dhabi," said Mounir Haidar, Sorouh Chief Executive.
"We are pleased that the project is moving ahead as scheduled," Haidar added.
