Doha Port is expected to earn revenues of $22 million during the year 2001, the same amount earned the year before, a port official told KUNA news agency Tuesday, December 18. The port received more than 600 commercial ships and some 400 supply-ships in 2000, transporting over three million tons of goods that year to Qatar.
"We were expecting an increase in traffic in Doha port this year, but the attacks against the US and the following military operations against Afghanistan had negatively affected the port’s performance”, the official said.
With the drop in cargo arriving in Doha, Qatari merchants began importing via Dubai Ports. More than 90 percent of imports to Qatar are now arriving via Dubai. — (menareport.com)
