The Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) won the "Public Service e-Initiative of the Year" award for e-Gate, the hi-tech project at the Dubai International Airport, at the Arabian Business e-Achievement Awards.
Instituted by ITP and hosted by Dubai Internet City and Dubai World Trade Center, the awards were on the sidelines of GITEX 2002. The award recognized DNRD's role in planning
and executing the e-gate project that has made Dubai one of the three airports in the world to operate an automated immigration system.
e-Gate allows quick access to inbound and outbound passengers through smart cards which are issued to regular travelers by the DNRD through a pre-registration process. The system was opened in mid-August and has since attracted hundreds of users. — (menareport.com)
