Oman TradaNet (OTN), a state-of-the-art digital exchange designed to connect Omani companies and government organizations with e-commerce trading partners at home and abroad will soon be operational, reported the Oman Daily Observer. It is being launched by the Talal al Zawawi Enterprises, using technology supplied by General Electric Information Services (GEIS).
The essential function of OTN is to provide an e-commerce infrastructure for organizations within the sultanate, allowing them to interface with one another and with interests outside the country. It is expected to significantly reduce purchasing cycle times, improve customer relationships and increase productivity.
Speaking to the Oman Daily Observer, Alan Livingston, OTN’s chief executive officer, said that the company initially will focus on building a fully integrated logistics infrastructure. At the same time, it will concentrate on the creation of electronic supply chains for both commercial and government bodies. A fully integrated logistics infrastructure is expected to be in place within nine months.
He added that Oman is ideally placed to become the main logistics hub of the region, and now with the introduction of OTN's e-commerce technical infrastructure, it will be the preferred logistics center.
OTN was created following an extensive evaluation of the Omani market by Gulf Tradanet (GTN), which is a firm dedicated to developing electronic commerce in the Gulf region. Quoted by the Oman Daily Observer, GTNs general manager Bill Rowe said that with OTN’s entry onto the scene, Oman would have an infrastructure that matches that of any of its neighbors.
