Denmark’s Ramboll Energy has secured a design contract for the onshore facilities of the Medgaz project, a new submarine pipeline between Algeria and Spain.
Ramboll will create the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) of the compressor station in Algeria and the offshore pipeline receiving terminal in Spain, advanced flow analyses of the entire network, environmental impact assessments of the terminals, as well as provide the technical basis for tendering of both terminals.
The 200-kilometer offshore pipeline will be installed at a depth of 2,160 meters. Work is scheduled to last approximately six months and is estimated to take a total 20,000 man-hours. The Medgaz transportation system will have the capability to transport a total volume of 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year through two submarine pipelines, with an estimated start-up rate of seven billion cubic meters per year.
The Medgaz project is classified by the European Commission (EC) under the Quick Start program to improve trans-border energy networks and secure additional energy supply routes. Some seven international energy companies are planning for the pipeline to transport natural gas from Algeria through the Mediterranean to Spain, where it will be distributed to the rest of Europe.
Ramboll is collaborating with Spanish engineering consultant Initec on the Medgaz project. With 4,200 employees Ramboll is the largest Nordic knowledge-based company within the classical engineering disciplines as well as oil and gas, energy, environment, management and IT. — (menareport.com)
