Director General of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), Mohamed Alabbar, called for more transparency and open and frank dialogue between the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Government and the private sectors to ensure that Dubai retains its competitive edge as the Middle East's business hub.
Speaking at the first in a series of seven industry sector dinner meetings in Dubai on Saturday, Alabbar said: “Our enterprising and competitive private sector is our champion and has played a significant role in making Dubai a location of choice for businesses from across the world. The sectoral meetings, aimed to encourage interactive and on-going dialogue, serves as a means to listen to the issues our friends in the private sector are facing and as a forum to find solutions in a collaborative mode.”
The meeting was attended by over 100 businessmen representing the trading sector. It will be followed by focused meetings covering the Emirate's industrial, financial, services, construction and real estate sectors.
Among the key issues that were raised at the meetings was the need for a collective plan to face the upcoming WTO regulations, unified and integrated method of working between the immigration, labor and the economic departments, launch of a commercial court to handle litigations relating to business issues, an independent credit rating agency, among others. — (menareport.com)
