Cyprus Airways is set to fly Dubai-Beirut return five times a week from July 1. This is the biggest expansion of flights in the Middle East by Cyprus' national carrier since it commenced operations in the Gulf 26 years ago.

Introduction of the new sector has been prompted by increases in passenger numbers, nearly 30 percent in some cases, recorded on other Cyprus Airways' routes to Beirut. Four of the return flights from Dubai will be direct to Lebanon's capital and then will progress to Larnaca. The fifth return flight will be to Larnaca and then continue to Beirut. Airbus A320s will be used for the route.

Cyprus Airways carried 1,654,719 passengers on all routes in 2002, 9.9 percent more than the previous year and the second-largest increase the carrier has recorded in a decade. On the Middle East routes, 216,435 passengers flew with Cyprus Airways in 2002, which is 8.4 percent, or 16,740 passengers, more than in 2001. — (menareport.com)
