A Lebanese bank source predicts that the price of consumer goods in Lebanon will rise by at least 10-13 percent in 2002, reported Al-Hayat . The same source related this price jump to the implementation of the new value added tax (VAT). The government is no longer able to curb down the treasury’s deterioration, since it is not able to privatize certain economic sectors in order to generate revenues for repaying the public debts. — (menareport.com)
