A Construction Chemicals Laboratory was inaugurated Saturday at the Jordanian Royal Scientific Society's Building Research Center, an RSS statement said. According to RSS President Said Alloush, the opening of the new lab signifies the conclusion of a joint project co-sponsored by RSS and the German institute, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).

Stressing that the project focused on evaluating the construction maintenance sector in Jordan, with particular emphasis on its technical and economic aspects, Alloush said it also aimed at establishing a specialized laboratory to provide testing and consulting services for quality control of many common types of construction chemicals.

He said “RSS has enjoyed more than 20 years of fruitful cooperation, and long-term relationships, with German institutions, such as GTZ and non-governmental institutions including Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. During this period, RSS received generous technical support for a number of its projects. The cooperation with FES stretches over a period of not less than 15 years. The institute's first office was actually based at RSS premises.”

Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Representative in Amman Paul Pasch congratulated RSS on inaugurating the new laboratory, which took three years of joint RSS-FES efforts to complete. He also said he hoped that this event will further open the way for more RSS achievements in the field of science.

Attending the ceremony was German Ambassador to Jordan Martin Schneller, and officials and engineers from concerned ministries and national institutions. — ( Jordan Times )
