Co-Op Islami, a Gulf supplier of Halal meat products, is significantly increasing the supply of its frozen chickens to supermarkets in the wake of a salmonella scare involving a leading rival Saudi-based producer of chickens. The Saudi Arabian produced chickens have been removed from freezer cabinets in Saudi Arabia and now throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“In the wake of this unfortunate incident involving a Saudi-based producer of frozen chickens we want to ensure that customers across the Gulf can be sure of purchasing quality chickens that have been produced in the most pure Halal manner,” said Co-Op Islami Managing Director Saleh Saeed Lootah.
Co-Op Islami was set up as the Dubai Cooperative Society in 1981 to provide halal meat products as per Islamic methods with chicken being the first product to be launched by the company. After starting with frozen chicken, Co-op Islami expanded to provide burgers, sausages, kebabs and minced meat. In 1991, the Co-op Islami plant boasting state-of-the-art technology was set up in Jebel Ali Free Zone.
Co-op Islami enjoys a sizable share of the market in the Gulf. It has recently opened a distribution center in Saudi Arabia. There are plans to open more such centers in other countries in the region. — (menareport.com)
