The Middle East is the second fastest growing over the counter market in the world and vitamins and mineral supplements are the third fastest growing category in that sector worldwide, industry figures quoted by the Toronto-based Jamieson Laboratories reveal.

The Canadian manufacturer and distributor of vitamin and mineral supplements is planning to tap the region’s vitamin supplement and health food sectors, according to a company press release. “We feel the time is right to establish a packaging and distribution facility in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone to better explore opportunities in the region," said Shan Chaudhuri, assistant manager at the international division of Jamieson Laboratories.

"There is a developing demand for natural vitamin, mineral and health food products in the Middle East and we believe this demand will continue to expand as people throughout the region seek a better quality of life," said Chaudhuri.

"Vitamin and mineral supplements are no longer outside the mainstream of healthcare," said John Hassett, exhibitions director at IIR Exhibitions, organizers of Arab Health 2002. "The high cost of developing new synthetic medications is helping to drive the demand upward for natural health care solutions."

Jamieson Laboratories will be making its Middle East trade show debut at Arab Health 2002, the region’s international hospital, medical equipment and services show to be held at the Dubai World Trade Center from January 26-29. So far over 600 companies from 45 countries have contracted to exhibit at Arab Health that will include 17 national pavilions or industry groups. — (menareport.com)
