Canadian Energy Industry Corporation, Tesco recently entered into a $943,000 agreement with Steppe Forage, a major Algerian water well drilling contractor, to Case Drill six water wells in western Algeria. Tesco will provide a top drive together with a Casing Drilling assembly for the project that will be performed over a period of approximately six months, reported Market News Publishing .
This will be the first time that Tesco will use the Casing Drilling process on a water-well drilling program, and the first time the company has drilled with casing outside of North America. Tesco also expects the project to attract the interest of Sonatrach, Algeria's national oil company. Enafor, Sonatrach's drilling division, has sub-contracted the rig, which will be used for the project.
Fresh water is becoming an increasingly precious commodity in many parts of the world, particularly in the North Sahara. This past November, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced it would lend Algeria 225 million euros ($200 million) for the construction of a drinking water pipeline to supply the greater Algiers and Kabylie regions. The loan will go to the Algerian Development Bank, which will put the money at the disposal of the National Dam Agency, and the Ministry for Water Resources. — (menareport.com)
