Scores of old buildings in Sharjah's downtown areas are still standing despite repeated municipal warnings to landlords, engineers told Gulf News. Many of these buildings present a hazard to passers-by and curious children, residents claim.
The old buildings are also a popular hiding place for illegal workers, said a Sharjah official, who called for their quick demolition.
