The heads of Arab airlines appealed to their governments to reduce visa restrictions to increase inter-Arab travel within the region, at a meeting in Cairo on the fallout of last month's terror attacks on the United States AFP reported on Saturday October 13.
The meeting of the executive committee of the Arab Air Transport Union (AATU) also recommended commercial cooperation between Arab airlines and appointed a committee to study the matter, Bin Bakr told a press conference. In addition, members of the committee recommended tightening security measures to achieve maximum flying safety.
The global aviation industry has been shaken since the September 11 attacks, which caused insurance premiums to shoot up for airlines. EgyptAir, the Egyptian national airliner, has decided to curtail 900 jobs as a result of the sharp decline in the number of flyers, the Middle East News Agency reported. — (Mena report)
