The government has approved a $1.2bn five-year plan in order to reconstruct areas in South Lebanon following its liberation from Israeli occupation. The plan was prepared by the Council of Development and Reconstruction (CDR), itself a state-run reconstruction organisation. The CDR will spend $896m on
developing infrastructure while the remaining part will be channelled into a comprehensive economic, social and human development plan and to clear landmines in the 15km (nine miles) deep zone.
According to Minister of Telecommunications Issam Naaman, sources of finance would include loans and grants from Arab and international funds.
