British Ambassador to Egypt John Sawers confirmed last week that the British investments and trade exchanges with Egypt were not affected by what has taken place in the world since the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
During his meeting with members of the Egyptian-British businessmen association, the ambassador added that a number of British economic and trade missions visited Egypt after the recent terror attacks on the United States and did not make any change in their programs.
At present, British investments in Egypt amounts to approximately $5.5 billion, making Britain Egypt’s leading foreign partner after the United States. Earlier this year, Egypt’s minister of petroleum, Sameh Fahmi, stated that British investments in Egypt’s oil and gas sectors were expected to reach $8 billion in the next four years. (Mena Report)
