The MT Astipalaia is the first ship to be delivered fuel by BP at Oman’s most southerly Indian Ocean port of Salalah. The vessel, a 154kT crude oil tanker, received 3.5kT of fuel oil from BP Marine’s bunker barge, the Al-Muntazah.
BP Marine , a subsidiary of international oil major BP, supplies three main grades of fuel to vessels at berth and at anchorage within port limits, following the recently concluded bunker fuel supply agreement between Salalah Port Services and BP Marine. Fuels are transported primarily from the Arabian Gulf to Salalah by BP Marine's main supply ship, the 35kT British Enterprise.
Salalah had rapidly grown to a million-plus TEU containers per year port. Currently Salalah is ranked 13th in the world in transhipment terms for the year 2000. Salalah’s soon to open free zone will further the growth of shipping to and via the port.
BP Marine is marine bunker supplier of marine with operations in most of the major bunker ports around the globe. In addition to fuel supplies, BP Marine is also the world’s largest marine lubricants supplier. — (menareport.com)
