In cooperation with a number of academic and scientific research organizations, the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has recently begun conducting four studies to develop the vast South Valley (Toshka) National Project.
According to reports in Cairo based Al-Ahram daily, the studies will analyze which seeds would be appropriate for planting in the region, as well as providing advanced technology and scientific support services for the project.
The World Bank has already agreed to give $300 million in loans to the companies investing in agricultural development in the Toshka Project, in addition to funding from Egyptian companies.
It is expected that cotton planted in the South Valley region will produce between 85 to 90 percent of the amount of cotton planted on more fertile soil. — (MENA Report)
