Digital devices manufacturer Benq, the new global brand formerly known as Acer Communications & Multimedia, announced the opening of its Middle East regional headquarters in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ), as well as its forecast for regional sales to more than double in the year 2002.
“The Middle East market for digital products—digital cameras, plasma displays, LCD monitor, CRT monitor, projectors, DVD-ROMs and CD-RW drives and mobile telephones—is absolutely enormous and growing significantly each year,” said Robert Dung, Benq regional managing director.
“Benq Middle East has enjoyed strong sales in 2001, and we expect to surpass $100 million in sales for the year 2002. Benq Middle East will see its largest growth area in the display products sector, with storage unit products following closely behind,” added Dung.
The Benq products are divided into six primary business units: display (CRT and LCD monitors), digital display (projectors and plasma display), optical storage (CD- and DVD-ROM drives, as well as CD-RW), imaging (scanners, multifunctional peripherals, and digital cameras), wireless (mobile phones, wireless module, Bluetooth PCMCIA card), and broadband (wireless LAN, Ethernet switch, XDSL, broadband router).
Formerly named Acer Communications & Multimedia, Benq has a regional office in Tehran and plans to open further ones in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The company has 4,000 authorized regional resellers, 400 of which are operating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Benq has manufacturing plants in China, Malaysia, Mexico and Taiwan. The company has 10,100 employees worldwide. — (menareport.com)
