The southern Wallonia region of Belgium is currently negotiating the sale of 3,000 dairy cows to Iraq and plans to export other agricultural products there, the Walloon agriculture minister Jose Happart said in an interview published Sunday.
"Concretely, there is no longer anything against the Wallonia region exporting meat, flour or diary products to Iraq," Happart told the daily La Derniere Heure.
Put in place in 1996, the oil-for-food program lets Iraq export oil to buy food, medicine and other necessities under close UN supervision. Iraq has been under an embargo since its invasion of Kuwait in August 1990.— (AFP, Brussels)
