The Manama Municipal Council recently announced that older houses in disrepair across Manama will that have been abandoned by their owners or turned into labor camps could soon be torn down.
The announcement came at a general-secretariat meeting of the council on Sunday, where a budget of BD500,000 was approved for annual allocation for the scheme, according to Gulf News Daily.
"There are many houses owned by well-known dignitaries and businessmen who have left them a long time ago and are not being used by anyone, or in some cases are occupied by expatriate workers," said council public relations and information committee vice-chairman Mohammed Mansoor.
